Tasting notes from the producer

A limited-edition 30-year-old single malt from Mortlach, Midnight Malt was initially matured in a mix of refill American oak and European oak casks before being finished in Bordeaux wine, Calvados, and Guatemalan rum casks. It was then married and further aged in custom quarter casks. Only 350 bottles were released.

Nose
A smooth nose with a gentle prickle at first, which settles over time to reveal a savoury, slightly herbal top note, like pork crackling sprinkled with dry sage.

Palate
A rich, winey, and apple-fruity start that delights the palate, followed by a long, spicy intensity with a delicious black pepper note that lingers.

Finish
Long, sweet, and deeply flavoured, with a light peppery spice. Adding a drop of water softens the sweetness, with the spicy heat balanced by a hint of mint chocolate in the lingering aftertaste.
