Small parcels of fruit from the estate were carefully selected for this Syrah. Fruit was handpicked in the cool of the morning, and then brought to the winery for processing. Minimal intervention is key with this style of wine. 20% whole-bunches were included in the bottom of small, open top fermenters, with the remainder destemmed on top, keeping whole berries. All batches were fermented wild, with minimal pump overs and gentle pigeage. Following pressing, the wine spent 16 months ageing in French oak puncheons, of which 20% were new.
Appearance:Β Bright in colour, with vivid purple hues.
Nose:Β Intense, lifted, aromatics include blackberry, violet, dried herb, pepper and spice.
Palate:Β Juicy fruit weight, with the silky, slightly chalky tannins and bright acidity adding structure and driving length.
This Syrah is a terrific food match, pairing beautifully with red meat and game such as lamb and venison, as well as charcuterie and soft cheeses.
