Tasting Notes From the Producer:

'Florita,' translating to 'little flower' in Spanish, resides in the quaint village of Watervale, located fifteen kilometers south of Clare township. Initially planted with Palomino grapes in 1946 for crafting Fino Sherry, this renowned Riesling vineyard underwent a transformation in 1962 when it was replanted with Riesling vines. It holds historical significance as the birthplace of Leo Buring Watervale Riesling, where the esteemed winemaker John Vickery sourced grapes for his exceptional Watervale Rieslings during the 1960s and 1970s.

In 1986, the 80-acre vineyard transitioned ownership from the globally-operated multinational company, Lindeman's, to brothers Mark, Peter, and John Barry. Initially introduced by Jim Barry Wines as 'Florita Riesling' in 2004, this micro-batch Riesling is meticulously crafted from grapes hand-selected from specific rows. The vineyard's prime fruit is derived from vines rooted in shallow loamy soils, benefitting from optimal air-drainage that mitigates the risk of frost.
