Tasting notes from the producer:

A deep gold color with tiny, delicate bubbles. This 1982 vintage remains remarkably fresh on the palate, and this freshness is evident on the nose with notes of orange and caramel. Hints of mushrooms, tobacco, mocha, and cinnamon are present, lingering through to the finish. For a wine over 30 years old, it has aged superbly.

Of the three Champagne houses named Heidsieck, all originating from once-related families, Charles Heidsieck is the smallest and arguably the best. Established in 1851 by the nephew of Piper-Heidsieck's owner, Charles Heidsieck himself was the original 'Champagne Charlie.' In 2011, both Charles Heidsieck and Piper-Heidsieck were acquired by the EPI Group, led by Christopher Descours, who has provided significant financial support for both houses. This investment has allowed them to expand their vineyard holdings, grape purchasing, and production.

Today, production occurs alongside sister company Piper-Heidsieck in a state-of-the-art winemaking facility on the southern outskirts of Reims. The Charles Heidsieck Cellars, a UNESCO World Heritage site, consist of over eight kilometers of chalk tunnels connecting forty-seven subterranean cathedrals called Crayères, which reach heights of 30 meters and are believed to have been excavated in the 3rd century.

After many years aging in these unique and ancient Crayères acquired by its founder Charles Heidsieck, Brut Millésime emerges as a champagne balancing elegance and complexity, with a smooth texture and long finish on the palate. Extended lees aging has unlocked the full potential of its aromas, giving each vintage its own signature and generous tone.

In 1978, Daniel Thibault, the renowned Cellar Master and prominent figure in modern Champagne, began crafting an exceptional vintage with more pronounced and "explosive" aromas than the standard version. The first Champagne Charlie was released with the 1979 vintage, followed by five more in 1978, 1981, 1982, 1983, and 1985.

The 1982 harvest is considered one of the most exceptional in Champagne history. The grapes matured under stable weather conditions, resulting in an abundant and impeccable harvest. All varieties of grapes were in excellent condition, characterized by finesse, balance, and grandeur, hallmarks of a great Champagne year.
