In this 2023 release of Kilchoman's Small Batch offering, the distillery has employed three types of casks for maturation. The majority (75%) has matured in ex-Bourbon barrels, with a smaller portion (5%) in ex-Sherry barrels. However, the true star of this exceptional single malt lies in the use of ex-red wine STR casks (20%). These specially selected casks, which are shaved, toasted, and re-charred, have infused the whisky with classic notes of citrus and peat smoke while introducing a layer of red fruits, cinnamon spice, and fresh vanilla. The resulting combination is truly magnificent. The STR casks contribute softly sweet aromas of baked apple and honey, along with toasted oak and delightful spice notes, enhancing this remarkable whisky's overall complexity and character.
